Northwind Guided Grouse and Woodcock Hunts
Our goal is to provide our clients with the best possible upland hunt. What sets us apart from other guide services is that this is our full time job. Our business is centered year around on grouse and woodcock. No other guide service in Northern Wisconsin can say this. Other guides are part time. Some live elsewhere and come to the Northwoods at the peak of the fall to guide then return to where they came from. In the spring we do our own drumming counts survey with over 50 drumming sites located.
Ann guides one of her clients into the deep Ruffed Grouse cover.
During the summer we also conduct our own brood surveys for the areas that we hunt. Due to the extensive amount of mapping of aspen clear-cuts we do as part of our business, we know where the cuts are located that are “off the beaten path” (of course you won’t find these cuts marked on the maps we sell). We are constantly updating our aspen stand inventory records for new places to hunt in the four county regions around where we live. Our dogs are highly trained, close working guide dogs. For example, in 2009 our three main dogs had over 3600 points on grouse and woodcock with over 75% of the points on grouse alone. When fall comes we work hard to get our clients into areas that few others have been. However, if you are looking for that stroll down a beautiful forested trail with dogs’ quartering back and forth in front of you we can provide that as well. For us the grouse season does not end at the end of hunting season, but continues all year round in order to provide you, our client with the best hunt possible. We invite you to take a couple minutes and view the following video called Why We Hunt":
Ann Jandernoa, owner of Northwind EnterprisesAnn Jandernoa is owner of Northwind Enterprises, graduate Forester, author of the Northwind Grouse Habitat Maps, creator and primary instructor of the Northwind Grouse Clinic program, Seminars, DVDs, and experienced upland bird hunting guide. Ann does her "homework." Starting in early Spring and continuing through early November, Ann spends a good deal of time scouting prime habitat, for her clients. Ann is known for taking her clients well off the beaten path, through the thickest cover, into the "back" of the habitat where there has been little or no hunting pressure. If you want to hunt at a leisurely pace, sticking primarily to the trails, Ann is not the guide for you (although she will slow down if you ask her nicely). On the other hand, if you want a guide who knows the habitat, hunts hard, and will do her best to find birds, then Ann is your guide.
Skip Souther, professional bird dog trainer and guide.Skip Souther is a professional bird dog trainer. Skip's specialty is "trail hunts" and working with client's who are hunting over their young dogs for the first time. Skip subscribes to the belief that grouse and woodcock hunting is more about working with the dogs and watching them work for you than shooting birds. If you are not inclined to "beat the brush" and "go all day" (although he will if you want), or if you want some help in getting your young dog started off on the right foot, then Skip is your guide.
If you are looking for an exceptional experience in the woods or a guided hunt we will provide you, and your own business clients, with the type of hunt you are looking for. We are the only guides in our area who offer full day, half day, single party, and multiple party hunts. A testimony to our hard work throughout the year can be seen in our clients who are happy and return year after year.
