Northwind Grouse DogsPups and Started Pups For Sale Currently we have one male pup, shown below at 8 weeks, still unspoken for from a breeding between Northern Maynard and Northern Maple. Click on this link: Feb 24, 2008 litter to see the bloodline of this exceptional pup.
The pups featured below will give you an additional idea of what some of our other pups have looked like. These pups were from a Northern Timber and Northern Bean litter back on December 1, 2003. Timber and Bean are the mother and father of Northern Maynard who is the sire of our most recent, February 24, 2008, litter.

Pups:
Our 8-10 week old pups sell for $600 for a
male and $800 for a female. Cost assumes pickup in Park Falls WI. We are
happy to assist with any delivery arrangements made by the customer, but cost
incurred by our kennel will be passed on to the customer. A $100
deposit will hold your request for a male or female. Availability of
gender is determined by the order in which the deposits are received.
If at the time the pups are sorted to first meet the needs of our guiding
business and we do not have available your choice of gender, you will get a full
refund. If you change your mind and decide not to take an available pup,
you will get a 50% refund.
All our pups have the appropriate vaccinations for their age. Included with each pup is
a copy of its immunizations records, a current certificate of health from
a licensed veterinarian (if you are purchasing your pup from outside of
Wisconsin and your state requires one), a copy of the litter's Field Stud Book Enrollment
Certificate which provides the Litter Enrollment Number necessary to register
the individual pup, and a partially completed Field Dog Stud Book Application
for Registration which provides all the Sire and Dam information. If
within the first 60 days after taking ownership of the pup you decide the pup is
not working out for whatever reason, and the pup is not injured or other wise
impaired due to neglect on your part, the pup will be returned to our kennel, at
your expense, and we will buy it back for 80% of the price you paid for the pup.
Started Pups (beyond 10-12 weeks of age):
The cost of a started
pup is based on how long beyond the age of 10 weeks we have the pup and how much
handling, socializing, and training has been provided. Most pups are
considered started when they have had the basics of name recognition, simple
commands such as come or here, whoa and heel learned during beginning yard work. Field work,
which usually doesn't come until after 6 months,
covers patterning, working close, and pointing liberated birds and wild birds if
the opportunity presents itself. If you purchase one our our pups, at 8-10
weeks, and ask us to start his/her training, we generally charge $50 a week
(including boarding) assuming the pup is with us until you wish to pick him/her
up. Ideally we like to spend some time with the new owner and his/her
started pup in order to assure a reasonable transition to the new "alpha dog."

The "first hunt" Where did that feather go?
Our pups come from a very defined and structured breeding program started by the late Robert Wehle over 65 years ago. At Northwind Kennels our pups are whelped inside our home where the whelping box remains in the corner of our living room for at least the first four weeks. We believe in socializing our pups from their very first day. Our pups become the "the family pet that hunts for you!" If you look closely at Northern Bean's portion of the 012307 litter pedigree you'll note that Bean's Great Grandfather on both his Mother's side (Elhew Desert Rose) and Father's side (Elhew Explorer) was Champion Elhew Snakefoot. Elhew Snakefoot was one of Bob Wehle's greatest sires. Snakefoot won the National S.D. Championship in 1995 and was also named the Top Shooting Dog Award Winner for 1995. Snakefoot produced many great dogs including 1995 National Prairie Chicken S.D. CH Elhew Tom Fool and 2001 North Am. Woodcock CH Elhew Goldielock. Bean's Father, Elhew Explorer won the 2000 Northeast Open Grouse Championship. Bean's Grandfather, Elhew Discovery, was Elhew Kennels 1997 Brag Dog and named runner up champion at the 1998 International Amateur Woodcock Championship. If you look closely at Northern Timber's portion of the 012307 litter pedigree you'll note that Timber's Grandfather was CH Elhew Snakefoot. Both Timber's Mother (Elhew Tom Boy) and her Father (Elhew Distinction) had CH Snakefoot as their Father. The strength of the "Line Breeding" found in the Elhew bred English Pointers is readily seen in our pups. Line Breeding (the best of the best) gives consistent structure to the pup's conformation, instinct, ability, and intensive desire to hunt. Our pups are highly socialized and given all the opportunities to develop their natural abilities at their own pace.
